ABOUT US

Hi there, we're Mike, Danielle and Nola Davies, the family behind Crow & Moss; a micro-batch, bean to bar chocolate company crafting bars, confections and baked-to-order pastries.

Mike started Crow & Moss after falling down the craft chocolate rabbit hole, evolving from a rudimentary set up in the basement including Danielle's pink hairdryer for winnowing, to our current 2,000 square foot workshop (the 'chocolatery') located in Petoskey. As a professional baker and lifelong specialty food enthusiast, Mike wanted to create a brand built on incredible chocolate, using just two ingredients (cacao and sugar) to allow the complexity of flavor in the cacao to shine through. Since then, he's expanded into chocolate based confections as well as artisan bakes inspired by local ingredients.

Danielle joined the company full-time in 2024 and handles all things design and marketing related, from the packaging to the website to our social feeds and newsletters. She also enjoys an informal role as chief taste tester, which is possibly the best job on earth. Nola came on the scene in 2023. We like to joke that she's composed of about 70% chocolate, which puts her on par with many of our bars. She isn't quite old enough to enjoy chocolate yet herself, but inspires us daily and loves posing for the odd social media photo.

Thanks so much for stopping by and supporting our small, family-run business.

Why the name Crow & Moss?

The name was one of the last things we settled on. When Danielle was designing the packaging, she popped the name Crow & Moss in as a random placeholder, inspired by the tradition of British pub names, but then it looked and felt so right that we ended up keeping it. Perhaps there was a touch of subsconscious wisdom coming into play there, as the name is such a good reflection of our two personalities: Moss for Mike, the grounded, nose-to-the-grindstone maker, and Danielle, the head in the clouds dreamer and designer. On a grander scale (and here is Danielle coming in with her crow vision), it captures that dichotomy and pull of opposite energies; of earth and sky, of yin and yang -- that must be brought into balance to create something truly special. That is what we seek to do everyday with our creations.
